The Philippines is our native land – the country of the brave. True, our ancestors have fought for our freedom even it costs their lives. We came from the blood of martyrs and righteous men and women who dared to fight and win the battle that made us a free nation now.
The Filipino people is Godly. Belief and fear in God in the character that makes us brave. We believe that the Good Lord gives great things to those who stand for the right and fight for the good. Hence, the Filipino people is recognized in the whole world as the people who never gives up whatever the times may be.
The Filipino people is naturally cheerful. We love being happy and making others laugh with our silly jokes and naughty thoughts. We are known as good entertainers worldwide, even when it comes to singing or stand-up comedians. Our people are said to be very strong because we are capable of smiling and making fun in midst of misfortunes.
I am really proud to be a Filipino. Our skin is brown, not white or black. Our success is the happiness of our family. Our strength is God. In a year, many storms hit our country, yet in centuries our houses remain strong putting up each time they fall. We have the never gave up spirit.
One Vietnamese friend of mine named Giap once asked me, “why are Filipinos scattered all over the globe?” I answered confidently, “because we help other countries to develop”. True. For many Filipinos are workers and thinkers in other countries. The brave Filipinos leave their families to work for other countries to make their children go to school because our government does not have enough work opportunities that give good salary.
Hence, the Filipinos left are those not very good in everything. The Philippines is having a brain drain. Our good teachers, scientists, doctors, nurses are serving other people and not the Filipino people. How sad, but this is true. Well, they make good money and they send the money to their children who are learning to work abroad also after studying. Poor Philippines is left behind.
I hope our country will be served by good Filipinos. But unless the salary of workers here has risen enough to feed and make children go to school, our country remains one of the poorest countries. I hope things will improve in the coming years.
